Forsythia

Forsythia is an easily grown shrub often used as a hedge with spreading upright-arching square stemmed branches. Leaves are ovate, green, and 3-5” wide with toothed margins in the upper half. It is well known for it’s 4 lobed golden flowers (1.5” long) blooming in clusters of 2-6 along the branches in early spring. This shrub spreads quickly if not pruned. Mature height and spread of up to 10’. Prefers full sun to partial shade and medium moisture well-drained soils but tolerates relatively poor and clayey soils and has a moderate drought tolerance once established.
Uses: Habitat/Food Wildlife, Shelterbelt
