American X Chinese Chestnut Hybrid

$5.00

Seedling 8-16"

This hybrid chestnut is a medium sized low branched tree with an open rounded crown often grown as an ornamental. Chinese chestnut is resistant to blight that has wiped out American chestnut. Leaves are coarsely toothed and dark green (5-8” long) with yellow fall color. Creamy yellowish-white flowers appear in late spring and are followed by edible nuts encased in spiny dehiscent burs (2-3” diameter) with 2-3 nuts per bur. Planting more than one facilitates cross-pollination and produces a more abundant nut crop. Mature height and spread of up to 60’. Prefers full sun and moist well-drained loam soils.

Uses: Shelterbelt, Food Human, Habitat/Food Wildlife

Orders must be picked up at our office on Friday April 17th 8:30am-4:00pm OR Saturday April 18th 8:30am-11:00am
