Also known as tamarack, this deciduous conifer is often found in swampy areas and along slopes. It has green needles in clusters of up to 30 that appear at the ends of shoots and branches. Needles are 1.25” long and turn yellow and fall off before winter. Cones are rounded and brown, up to 1” long. Mature height of up to 80’ and spread of up to 30’. Prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, acidic, well-drained soils.
Uses: Shelterbelt, Native, Habitat/Food Wildlife, Environmental Forestry, Watershed
