The American elderberry is a suckering shrub that is usually found along streambanks, moist woodlands, fence rows, and along roadsides. Tiny white flowers appear in clusters in late spring and give way to fruits in late summer that can be used to make jellies, fillings, and wine and are also enjoyed by wildlife. Mature height and spread of up to 12’. Prefers wet, well-drained soils and full sun to part shade.
