Enviroscape Watershed/Nonpoint Source Pollution
-
During the demonstration, students will briefly review watersheds, the water cycle, and pollution. These basics along with the model will allow students to learn about point and nonpoint source pollution and how it affects our watershed. Students will be see how different types of pollution from different areas in the town enter the watershed. Together they will come up with ideas to prevent watershed pollution and their methods will be tested by repeating the demonstration using their BMP’s (best management practices)
-
The demonstration generally applies to grades 4-6, but can be adjusted to any level from k-12 with some guidance on what students know about watersheds and pollution
-
The demonstration generally lasts about 1 hour.
-
This demonstration allows students to take a hands on approach to learning how they can prevent watershed pollution by interacting directly with the model and with each other. During the demonstration, students will be able to participate and put their ideas and problem solving abilities to the test.
